We are looking for a Accounting Manager (m/f) for Highgate Hotels, in Portugal. This position will be located at our offices in Albufeira, Algarve.
The Accounting Manager is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and compliance of all accounting processes and financial records. This role plays a key part in the monthly and annual closing processes, tax compliance, and financial reporting, ensuring alignment with local regulations and accounting standards. The Accounting Manager also supports internal and external audits and works closely with other departments to ensure effective financial operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, fixed assets, and bank reconciliations;
- Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end closing processes;
- Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards (SNC / IFRS);
- Monitor compliance with local tax obligations (VAT, CIT, etc.) and support tax filings;
- Coordinate with external auditors and tax consultants;
- Develop and implement accounting policies and internal controls;
- Collaborate with the Finance Director/CFO on budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow monitoring;
- Support process improvements and digitalization initiatives in accounting.
Requirements:
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field;
- Certified Accountant (CC – Contabilista Certificado) by the OCC (Portugal);
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, with at least 2 years in a similar role;
- Strong knowledge of Portuguese GAAP (SNC); IFRS is a plus;
- Solid understanding of tax regulations and compliance in Portugal;
- Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Primavera, etc.);
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail and problem-solving skills;
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally;
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
