Job Description and Responsibilities:
Fraunhofer Portugal AWAM is opening a Scientist position to join the R&D team in Vila Real. The focus will be on the development of application-oriented, market-driven and fit-for-purpose solutions for promoting energy transition and resource valorisation, specifically the development of Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) solutions. The work encompasses the assembling, testing and optimization of lab prototypes, testing of membranes and parameter estimation, sample preparation and characterization, set-up of new testing procedures and evaluation of data, and documenting and communicating results.
Personal Skills and Professional Experience:
- Proven know-how in gas separation (e.g. membrane- and/or adsorption-based) and/or pervaporation is an asset;
- Experience with laboratory analytical instruments (e.g. chromatography (e.g. GC, IC), GC-MS, UV-VIS spectroscopy, density meters, etc.) is highly valued;
- Ability to work autonomously and to adapt to changing requirements;
- Pro-active attitude, eagerness to learn and strong work ethic;
- Performs allocated tasks efficiently and complies with safety practices;
- Fluent in English, both written and verbal, proficiency in Portuguese is an advantage.
Academic Qualifications:
- MSc degree in chemical engineering, bioengineering, or similar;
- Scientific publications on relevant topics, communications, and other dissemination activities are not mandatory but highly valued.
